TRACEY-LEE OF FITNESS GIRL

July 10, 2018
Hailing from Cape Town, South Africa, Tracey-Lee Lusty is a lawyer and body positive blogger. As a strong believer that women need to celebrate their “whole existence, flaws and all”, Tracey started FITNESSGIRL in 2016. It’s an honest blog where she shares her experience of balancing work, health and fitness. We speak to Tracey about body positivity and self-love.

ON BODY POSITIVITY:
“Being body positive means accepting and celebrating your unique body shape, whether it’s 100kg or 50kg. It’s about acknowledging that our bodies may go through natural size changes, and not hating yourself when that happens. It’s also about body acceptance and self-love which to me, essentially means doing your utmost to keep your body functioning healthily and optimally.”

“Being body positive or a body positive activist is about loving your body through every season and being “ok” with your “flaws”. It’s also about recognizing that all bodies are equal regardless of their size or ability.”

HER BEST PIECE OF ADVICE:
“One of the best pieces of advice I can give, which took years of practice for me, is not to compare your journey to anyone else’s. We are all running a different race. Being comfy in your own skin is not something you achieve overnight but rather, it’s a state of being that’s only really achievable through the practice of self-love and self-affirmation.”

HER FANTASY DINNER GUESTS:
“Definitely my BodyPosi sister and total #inspo babe, Ashley Graham. Ellen DeGeneres, because we all need that one hilariously funny friend who has a heart of gold. And lastly, Mr James Corden so we can break out in song #GleeStyle during dinner (nothing like a bit of #DinnerKaraoke).”

ON SELF-LOVE:
“Practicing real self-love is learning to be kinder to yourself. For me, I practice self-love by acknowledging that I’m not going to be on my A-game 100% of the time; that there are going to be days where I eat off diet or miss training sessions. And that’s OKAY.”

BEST THING ABOUT B-ING TRACEY-LEE:
“Every day I get to inspire women all over the world with my transformation story and how it has lead me to become an advocate of the body positive movement.”
