THE JUNGLE BODY

July 12, 2018
The Jungle Body is dance cardio for any age, shape and fitness level. Founder Tara Simich combined her favourite things into one class: awesome music and easy moves. She launched The Jungle Body as a passion project while she was working as an accountant. Now, there are hundreds of classes run throughout the week globally. We collaborated with Tara and Head Choreographer Shereice for our August Campaign, where the duo put our new tights to the ultimate test.

FOUNDER TARA SIMICH

ON HOW THE JUNGLE BODY BEGAN:
“When I first started it, it was purely a passion – I just love dance fitness and music. I started teaching a class in a local hall and it really took off. We were getting hundreds of people to every single class, it was crazy! Then in 2010, I got a few people on board to teach the classes and it’s grown since then. Now we have over 700 instructors in 17 countries.”

“The Jungle Body is all about celebrating people who are uncoordinated and embracing those that may not be the fittest. It’s all about having fun and feeling good about yourself.”

ON WHAT PEOPLE CAN EXPECT FROM A CLASS:
“You can expect a whole lot of fun, awesome music, simple moves and expect to sweat. It’s not intimidating or scary so do not worry if you’re uncoordinated.”

HEAD CHOREOGRAPHER SHEREICE SODERBERG

HOW SHE STARTED WITH THE JUNGLE BODY:
“The first time I went to The Jungle Body class, I was positioned front and centre. I loved it so much. Tara came up to me after class and said she would be holding her first ever instructor workshop and she’d love me to do it. I was one of the first 20 international instructors.”

ON THE DANCE MOVES:
“The dance moves make you feel like you’re in a club without being in a club. It’s heaps of fun, we do some twerking and boxing, it’s really easy to follow.”

ON EACH CLASS:
“The Jungle Body class goes for an hour but that also includes a warm up, a toning track (squat and arms) so if you’re getting tired we slow it down, then a floor track and a cool down track.”

HER FAVE TRACKS:
“At the moment, I’m obsessed with Cardi B but I love Drake and DJ Khaled. Beyonce is my all time fave, but I also like a lot of older stuff as well, including Whitney Houston.”

HER ADVICE FOR BEGINNERS:
“Just come, have a go. The classes are in darkness sometimes or if not, just stand at the back. No one is there to judge, it’s four steps per routine and easy to follow – you won’t regret it I promise.”

Still don’t know what to expect from a class? We filmed the duo sweating it out to a track.

THE VERDICT ON OUR NEW TIGHTS:
“It was great, I live in Cotton On Body activewear. It’s so easy to move in, no falling down and I love the colour.” – Tara

“I love them! They stayed up the whole time and I didn’t even have to adjust them, which I really appreciate.” – Shereice
