SALLY OBERMEDER

November 24, 2017
Sally Obermeder is an entrepreneur, best-selling author and one of Australia’s most loved TV personalities. In 2011, just days before she was to give birth to her first child, Sally was diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer. Over the next 12 months, she underwent intensive chemotherapy, radiation and a double mastectomy. Now, she’s been cancer free for 5 years! The mother of two has just released a new cookbook with her sister Maha, called Super Green Simple & Lean.

ON HER NEW COOKBOOK:
“This one is all about simple & lean. It’s stuff you’ve already got in your pantry & cupboard at home. If you’re looking to lose a few kilos or if you’re looking to have more energy, all the food is designed to be nutritious and energy boosting. It’s food that makes you look good but also feel amazing.”

FAVE RECIPE FROM SUPER GREEN SIMPLE & LEAN:
“Ohhh that’s like asking me to pick my favourite child. I would probably say the sesame chicken with the asian cabbage slaw. I love that because it’s so easy to do the slaw & then the marinade is delicious. It’s a crowd pleaser.”

ON THE MOMENT SHE FOUND OUT SHE WAS 5 YEARS CANCER-FREE:
“It’s hard to put into words… it’s just so special. It hangs over your head a little bit, when you go to get a check you sort of think ‘what if?’ For anyone who has been through cancer, to get to that 5-year mark, it’s a pretty big deal. It’s very special.”

HER GO-TO BREAKFAST:
“Smoothie, no questions. They’re my go-to breakfast always. The book has got loads of smoothie recipes but if I’m in a rush, we have our frozen range of super green smoothies in Coles & Woolies so our freezer is chock full of those. I just put one of those in the blender, add coconut water and it’s ready in 60 seconds.”

TIPS TO BEATING THE 3PM SUGAR CRAVINGS:
“Take stuff with you definitely! It happens at 3pm for all of us, it’s just that natural energy slump so I generally do two things: I always have snacks with me because I’m a sweet freak. I take either the salted caramel delights or a chocolicious fudge ball with me. Or sometimes I do a second smoothie at around 3 or 4pm. Either I’ll prep one from home & take it with me, or if I’m in a rush, I’ll take one of our frozen ones and whip it up in the blender.”
