3 WORDS TO DESCRIBE HER…

“Energetic, Ambitious, Sporty.”

FAVOURITE RUNNING TUNES…

“If I’m by the beach on a cruisey, flat run it’s normally songs by the artist Flume or a bit of Aussie rap like Illy. When I’m doing hill runs I like more intense music either Imagine Dragons or a workout remix to kick my butt into gear and power through the burn!”

ON HER PRE & POST WORKOUT MEALS…

“Pre-run I always make sure I fill my body with fuel food such as poached eggs on a slice of wholemeal/sourdough with avocado or greek yogurt with chai seeds and mixed berries!

I’m not a big eater after a run. However I do have plenty of water, handful of almonds and a piece of fruit to replenish my energy levels.”

FAVOURITE PART ABOUT BEING INVOLVED IN #RUNGIRLRUNCLUB LAST YEAR…

“The members! They all had such unique and amazing personalities! I loved meeting new people and building rapport with them. All the ladies showed such commitment and encouraging attitudes every session, even on the chilly winter evenings. It was truly inspiring to see how supportive & motivating they were of each other. Lots of laughs, chats and sore muscles! Nothing but good vibes and long strides!”

TOP TIPS FOR STICKING TO A RUNNING TRAINING SCHEDULE…

“Your running plan can feel repetitive but a couple of tips to stay on track are –

Tracking your achievements: Use apps like RunKeeper or Endomondo to follow your progress! Seeing your improvements in time, distance, average pace keeps you motivated and disciplined to achieve more!
Goal setting: A method I use for myself and my clients is SMART. S = Specific
M = Measurable A = Attainable
R = Relevant
T = Time-bound
This method keeps you focused on the task ahead!
Be prepared and reward yourself! If you’re going for a run whether its early morning, lunchtime or in the evening have your running gear ready! This helps eliminate the excuses and helps your get out the door quicker. Everyone loves new clothes or shoes! Treat yourself to something, depending on the season and get a good snap of yourself in your running location.”

ON THE ‘RUNNER’S HIGH’…

“Running is certainly easier for some. When someone sets out to go on a run whether the person enjoys it or not it’s always a mental battle to keep going! From experience, the ‘high’ feeling you get is normally a combination of a sense of achievement and your body releasing endorphins. I believe that you always have to start your run in a good mindframe, otherwise it will be more challenging.”

BEST ADVICE FOR NEW RUNNERS…

“If you’re a beginner runner start with small steps. Target an object (letter box) and run to it, then walk for a little bit and repeat the same until you increase your ability. Make sure you warm up & stretch before every run.
Start on grass and warm up properly to avoid shin splints most runners experience.
Change up your run type or environment.
Grab a buddy or join a group of people roughly around your same fitness level so you’re accountable and show up.”

CHANGES GIRLS CAN EXPECT TO SEE IN THEIR BODIES AFTER COMMITTING TO #RUNGIRLRUNCLUB…

“It’s common to notice the first changes to your body after about 4-5 weeks of consistent activity! It might not be aesthetic but certainly in your energy levels. Noticing changes in your breathing, mood and sleep is expected. Run Club is running specific training but will still consist of circuit style sessions to strength your running muscles!”

GYM VERSUS THE OUTDOORS…
“I vote outdoors! I train in a number of different venues, gyms and facilities and yes depending on the season I much more prefer outdoor training! There’s just something about the outdoors you can’t get in a gym atmosphere! Sunshine, fresh air and nature!”

FAVOURITE OUTDOOR LOCATIONS FOR RUNNING…

“Parks, my hometown and beachfront! My backyard is river frontage and I love doing my own workouts by the river… So beautiful and in summer I jump in the river after a tough/sweaty session! I do most of my bootcamps in parks and utilise buildings with stairs and obstacles to make it challenging and fun. Through summer I run my Saturday morning sessions at Stockton beach, the clients love it!”

Hi,
I am interested in you rungirlrunclub in Newcastle. I have a 3 month old baby and would be unable to find someone to watch her for the Thursday AM session. Would I be able to bring my pram? Or would it be ideal to just attend the Tuesday PM sessions?
Thank you in advance,

Sharna Williams

Hi Sharna,
Thanks for getting in touch! You’re more than welcome to bring your pram along however, there won’t be anywhere you can leave it so you’d have to run with it. If you have a suitable pram, then by all means you can 🙂 Enjoy the running training! Body x
