Kate Stewart is the Founding Director at En Pointe Events, and a member of the Five Chefs Fundraising Committee. She’s part of the positive force bringing together some of the world’s best chefs to raise money for the Starlight Foundation. This year Kate helped to organise a special celebration of Starlight’s 30 years of brightening lives of seriously ill children & their families. Cotton On Body donated a prize pack to be auctioned at the event, and caught up with Kate to find out more…

DO YOU HAVE ANY KEY MENTORS OR PEOPLE WHO HAVE DEEPLY INFLUENCED WHO YOU ARE?
HAVE YOU HAD ANY LIFE CHANGING EXPERIENCES, IF SO WHAT WERE THEY?

WHAT MOTIVATES YOU?
“Working with and being around other inspiring, motivated people – my En Pointe team and husband for example.”
HOW DID THE IDEA FOR THIS INITIATIVE COME ABOUT?
“The event was established in Sydney in 1993 when Armando Percuoco held a fundraising dinner at his restaurant, Buon Ricordo. The following year Armando Percuoco, Lucio Galletto, Tetsuya Wakuda and Serge Dansereau created what would become one of Australia’s premier food and wine events. The dinner became ‘Five Chefs’ when Neil Perry and Janni Kyritsis joined Armando, Tetsuya and Serge for the next 10 years. Starlight Five Chefs Dinners are held in five cities across Australia and are arguably the greatest food and wine fundraising dinners in Australia.”
WHAT MAKES THESE EVENTS SO SPECIAL?
“The events are set apart from other charity dinners because we work hard to have almost every element of the dinner donated. This includes food and wine, the venue, entertainment and every auction item. This ensures nearly every dollar raised goes directly to supporting Starlight Programs. Each of our featured Chefs have supported our events through the creation of individual courses for each event. They also support us through their network of suppliers to provide ingredients for each course free of charge.”
WHY IS THE CAUSE SO CLOSE TO YOUR HEART?
“I have been fortunate to work with The Starlight Children’s Foundation for many years now – originally by way of donating catering via my former business Bright Young Things. I value their professional approach to volunteers and fundraising and am in awe of what they do for children and their families. They make people smile.”
WHERE DO THE FUNDS RAISED GO?
“Starlight programs – With events in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide, all funds raised from the dinners will go towards supporting Starlight programs on a national and state level.”
