Greta Eagan is the green brain behind Fashion Me Green, a blog about clean beauty, eco fashion & healthy living. She is devoted to style & sustainability and merges the two without sacrificing her values. We ask her top 3 tips to living a more eco friendly life, and her thrift shopping secrets!
SOME EASY WAYS PEOPLE CAN START LIVING GREENER TODAY…
“Conscious living is just that… conscious. 🙂 When you look at labels and ask about how something or where something is made (and with what ingredients or materials) you can support the brands that are doing the heavy lifting for you. For fashion, looking for items that are made with organic or recycled materials is always a go-to for me.”
HER TOP 3 TIPS TO LIVING A MORE ECO FRIENDLY LIFE:
1. Eat plants.
2. Don’t wash your clothes so much (it saves water, and extends the life of your clothes).
3. Use natural products (for cleaning, skincare, etc).
FROM WHEN YOU STARTED YOUR BLOG TO NOW, HAVE YOU SEEN POSITIVE CHANGES IN THE RETAIL INDUSTRY?
“Yes! I think we are still at the beginning of this journey into more conscious production and consumption in fashion, and it is an exciting place. I look forward to seeing all the ways brands innovate and listen to their customers to give them stylish options that align with their ethics.”
WE RECENTLY RECEIVED AN A- RATING IN THE BAPTIST WORLD AID REPORT. AS AN ETHICAL PURCHASER, IS THIS SOMETHING YOU REFERENCE WHEN SHOPPING?
“Absolutely. What a fantastic resource! I also like to reference Project Just, and the Skin Deep Database for beauty product ratings.”
ON THE MAGIC OF CLOTHING SWAPS:
“Clothing swaps are super fun! You set a date, send out an invite to your most stylish friends to bring clothing they no longer want or wear, and then host an evening with wine and nibbles to try on and exchange pieces of clothing. Some people use a ticket system, and color code tickets for the value of the clothing (ie: designer, contemporary, basic) and you can use like tickets to exchange at a one for one, or add up tickets to exchange a couple of pieces for one more expensive-rated piece.”
HER SECRETS TO FINDING TREASURES WHILE THRIFT SHOPPING:
“I do love to thrift- especially for designer pieces. It is such a great way to upgrade your wardrobe and instill a bit originality. I mostly thrift when I am traveling. There are always great thrift stores in big cities and I make a point to stop in. I usually look for accessories and jackets.”
