Erin has a curious mind. Before her career took off, she was studying psychology & philosophy. Now she studies plant ecology simply because it interests her… Meet this Everyday Hero.
ON HER PASSIONS:
“I’m passionate about a lot of things but just learning in general. Being curious about literally everything is where I’m at most of the time.”
ON HER PLANT ECOLOGY STUDIES:
“It’s more of an interest really, I haven’t figured out any jobs that might come from it yet but it’s come from a general interest in the world around us. I read this book called The Hidden Life of Trees and it talked about how trees and plants in general communicate with each other. They have this thing that scientists called the Wood Wide Web where their roots connect underneath the surface through bacteria, they transfer nutrients to the young and it changed my thought pattern in that kind of realm. So I decided I wanted to learn more about it because it’s pretty magical.”
WOMEN WHO INSPIRE HER:
“My Mum is always at the top of that list. She’s really cool. She’s taught me a lot of things I don’t think she realised she taught me. She built most of the furniture in our house, she’s recently done a welding course and is making these incredible recycled metal sculptures. She just had her first market stall last weekend. I don’t think she realises but she’s a bad ass Mum.”
ON HER LOVE FOR FILM PHOTOGRAPHY:
“When it comes to film as opposed to digital photography, it made me slow down a little bit and actually reflect on the moment. Instead of taking an image, looking at it to see if it’s good and thinking more about the image than about the moment it’s capturing.”
HER FAVOURITE BOOKS:
“I have so many favourite books. My favourite one, especially for women, is the Women Who Run With The Wolves by Clarissa Pinkola Estes. Then the other one I would recommend for anyone even if you’re not really a reader is The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. I gave it to my brother when he was 18, it’s just a really beautiful story.”
